The book of Psalm.


Hebrew: Sepher Tehillim. ( Book of Praises. )

The Psalms circles around major events and contain all the color of the human soul, much more than other books. They bring fort the Pentateuch of the 5 books of Moses in a poetical way, where as Moses wrote in a political way.

The books of Psalms correspond with the 5 books of Moses.

Genesis – chapter 1 – 41 in the Psalms. 

Exodus – chapter 42 – 72 in the psalms.

Leviticus – chapter 73 – 89 in the Psalms.

Numbers – chapter 90 – 106 in the Psalms

Deuteronomy – 107 – 150 in the Psalms.

Book 1 Genesis. The general theme concerns man, showing Gods counsel from the beginning to the end in relationship to man. It begins with Gods blessing upon man, showing him that his blessedness consist in obedience to God.

Ps. Chapter 1: Blessed is the man that walk not in the counsel of the ungodly nor stands in the path of sinner nor sit in the seat of the scornful, but his delight is in the law of the Lord. He shall be like a tree, planted by the rivers of water, which brings fort its fruit in season, whose leaf shall not wither and whatever he does shall prosper.

Genesis chapter 3 verse11: It continues with mans fall and rebellion. 

Ps. Chapter 14: The fool said in his heart there is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none who does good. 

Genesis from chapter 4 – 50: It ends with the hope of redemption through Christ. 

Ps. Chapter 16: verse 5-6: O Lord you are the portion of my inheritance, you maintain my cup and my lot. The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places, yes I have a good inheritance. It concludes with a benediction and with a double Amen. Ps. Chapter 41 verse 13: Blessed is the God of Israel Amen, Amen.

Exodus 42 – 72: Israel as a nation showing ruin, redeemer and redemption.

Like Exodus it begin with a cry from the depth of ruin and despair. 

Exodus chapter 1 verse 22: So Pharaoh commanded all his people saying: Every son who is born, you shall cast into the river, but every daughter you shall save alive.   

Ps. Chapter 42 verse 5: They yarn for God in the middle of distress:  Why are you cast down O my soul and why are you disquieted within me. Hope in God, for I shall praise him for the help of his countenance.    

Exodus chapter 4 to 15. It continues with Gods mighty work of deliverance. 

Exodus chapter 15 verse 11-13: Who is like you glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders, you stretch out your right hand, the earth swallowed them. You in your mercy, have lead forth the people, whom you have redeemed. You have guided them in your strength to your holy habitation.

Ps. Chapter 46 verse 1-3: God is our refuge and our strength a very pleasant help in trouble. Therefor we will not fear, even thought the earth be removed and thought the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea. Thought the waters roar and shake with swelling. 

Exodus chapter 19: verse 4-5: You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles wings and brought you to myself. Now therefor if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to me above all people, for all the earth is mine. 

Ps. Chapter 51 verse 1-2: Have mercy upon me O God according to your loving kindness, and to the multitude of your tender mercies. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity and cleanse me from all my sin.

Exodus chapter 40 verse 34: Then the cloud covered the tabernacle of meeting and the glory of the lord filled the tabernacle.

Ps. Chapter 72 verse 19: Blessed be his glorious name forever and let the whole earth be filled with his glory. Amen. Amen.

Leviticus 73 – 89: The book begins with the sanctuary related to man, revealing the basic for fellowship with God.

Leviticus chapter 7 verse 37-38: This is the law of burnt offering, the grain offering, the sin offering, the trespass offering, the consecration and the sacrifice of peace offering, which the lord commanded Moses on Mount Sinai, on the day when he commanded the children of Israel to offer their offerings to the Lord in the wilderness of Sinai. 

Ps. Chapter 84 verse 1-2: How lovely is your tabernacle O Lord of Host. My soul longs even faints for the courts of the Lord. My heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.

In nearly every Psalm of the book, the sanctuary and mans relation to it is mentioned. It concludes with a benediction.

Ps. Chapter 84 verse 52: Blessed be the lord forever more. Amen, Amen.

Numbers. Its general theme concerns Israel and the gentiles – the counsel of God is not revealing any hope for mankind apart from God. It shows the walk of man in his early pilgrimages to a better world and a better life. It begins with 

Number chapter 1 to 9: God established a commonwealth in Israel by his just law to his own worship and the erection of the tabernacle, which was to be his dwelling place of his throne among the people. They were also to be fully organized into armies and companies to carry out Gods purpose of settlement in Canaan. 

Ps. Chapter 90 verse 16-17: Let your work and your glory be known to your servant and your children. Establish the work of our hands for us.  

Number chapter 9 verse 16-17: The lord said to Moses: Gather to me 70 men of the elders of Israel and bring them to the tabernacle of meeting, that they may stand there with you there, I will come down and talk with you. I will take of the spirit that is upon you and put the same spirit upon them, for they shall bear the burden of the people with together with you, that you may not bear it alone.

Ps. Chapter 91-16: With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation. There is safety by abiding in the presence of God.  

Number chapter 18 verse 24: The tithes of the children of Israel, which they offer op as a heave offering to the lord, I have given to the Levites as an inheritance. Therefor I have said to them: Among the children of Israel, they shall have no inheritance.

Ps. Chapter 96 verse 1-3: O sing to the lord a new song, sing to the lord all the earth. Sing to the Lord and bless his name. Proclaim the good news of his salvation from day to day. Declare his glory among the nations, his wonders among the people.

Numbers chapter 35 verse 2: Command the children of Israel, so that they give the Levites city to dwell in from the inheritance of their possession. You shall also give the Levites common land around the cities.  

Ps. Chapter 106 verse 48: Blessed be the Lord God of Israel from everlasting to everlasting and let all the people say Amen.

Deuteronomy 107 – 150: It concerns God and his word, showing that all blessing of man book 1 –  Israel book 2 – the sanctuary book 3 – and the earth book 4 are based on obedience to the word of God. 

Deuteronomy chapter 8: So he humbled you to hunger and feed you with mamma, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that he may make you know, that man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceed from the mouth of the lord. Your garment did not wear out, nor did your feet swell these 40 years.

They were protected from getting seek and from danger. God even protected their belongings and they saw his wonders as he followed them by fire at night and a cloud by day. 40 years of protection, but they did not fully believe.

Disobedience brought many sorrows, Israel’s dispersion, the sanctuaries ruin and earths miseries. 

Ps. Chapter 150: Praise God in his sanctuary. Praise him in his mighty firmament.

Praise him for his mighty acts; praise him according to his excellent greatness.
